In the process, I’ve found the term applied to, over the years, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Russell Crowe, Sam Worthington, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Skerritt, James van der Beek (?), Harrison Ford, William Hurt, and my personal favorite, Mr. So a while ago, I was curious to try and find out who was the first person to use that cliché. I know I’ve heard it about 10,000 times, to the point where it seems like every single leading man apparently has a little character actor living inside of him. Have you ever heard someone - a critic on a podcast, a director in an interview, a schmuck on the internet - talk about an actor, and refer to them as “a character actor in a leading man’s body”? So I posted this as a comment on another post and a couple people asked me to make it its own past.
